The word that God has given me for the new year is “The Kingdom of Heaven” with the focus on living in the Kingdom of Heaven. I will only have time today to begin this great topic, but I am planning to continue teaching on the series “The Kingdom of Heaven” following the “Hearing From Heaven” conference. What is the Kingdom of Heaven? It is the Kingdom of God. It’s the Supernatural Realm where God lives, speaks and rules, exerting His power and rule from heaven to earth, from time to eternity, from everlasting to everlasting. It’s where God’s life, wisdom, character and strength is poured into our life. It’s the Presence of God, the Power of God and the Rule of God.
Presence of God (Living in the presence of God) It means becoming aware of God and inviting Him into your everyday life.
Power of God (Living in the Supernatural Power of God) It means praying for the supernatural, expecting the supernatural and living in the supernatural.
Rule of God (Living under the Rule of God) It means you’re not in charge any more. (And neither is your wife!) It means God is in charge, not just while you’re in church, but all the time. It means God is the King, the Boss, the Head Honcho, the Emperor, the President, the absolute monarch of your life.
Is anybody interested? Then let’s go for it.
There are 119 New Testament References to the Kingdom of Heaven. The theme of the Kingdom of Heaven permeated the teachings of Jesus, beginning with “Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” Jesus taught more on the Kingdom of Heaven than anything else. Yet we seem to have so little understanding of it. Today I want to invite you into the Kingdom of Heaven, not just for ticket for an eternity in heaven, not just for a visit — but to live in the kingdom of Heaven. To do that we have to repent, which means to “Think differently”, “Change your mind” and “Change your behavior.” It means to give your heart and soul and mind and strength to Jesus, and let Him be the King of your life.
Many times Jesus said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like…”
The Kingdom of Heaven is near. (It’s closer than you think.) “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matt 3:2)
It’s at hand, within reach, accessible, nearer than you think. Let’s get over thinking the Kingdom of Heaven is far off and far away when Jesus said it it near. When Jesus came, he brought the kingdom. Where Jesus was, the kingdom was. Since Jesus is in us, the Kingdom of Heaven is in us. So, wherever we are, the Kingdom of Heaven has an opportunity to be there. Jesus demonstrated the Kingdom of Heaven when He healed the sick, cleansed the lepers and raised the dead. Acts 10:38 says “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.” Has God anointed us? Is God with us? Then we can do the same. Jesus said, I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12) The Kingdom of God is bigger than the church. Let’s take it outside the church — to the job, to the neighborhood, to Wal-mart. Wherever you go, the Kingdom of Heaven goes — in full power!
The Kingdom of Heaven is made up of children. (It’s open to children and other small people.) “Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matt 19:14)
The Kingdom of Heaven is entered and explored by humility, innocence, dependency, trust and receptivity — like a little child. No room for pretense. No room for pride. Only those who are small enough to go through the keyhole of humility will enter and live in the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who go low enough to escape the radar of the enemy will get in. It’s time to get the camel of our pride to bow down and go through the eye of the needle to get into the Kingdom.
The Kingdom is like a mustard seed. (It starts small but grows big.) “He told them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.’”Matt 13:31)
God wants His kingdom to grow in your life this year. He wants to extend his realm in your life, far beyond what you have experienced in the past. It’s like escaping the atmosphere and the gravity field of the earth and boldly going beyond where we have ever been before, into the “outer space” of the Kingdom of God. There really is that much more to be explored and experienced and lived in.
The Kingdom is like yeast. (It changes what it’s put into.) “He told them still another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough.’”(Matt 13:33) God will not move in beside anything else. The expanding Kingdom of God will push aside everything else. With God, it’s all or nothing. And we have experienced next-to-nothing of the Kingdom of God. We’ve just scratched the surface. We’ve just experienced a drop in the bucket, compared with the vast expanses of the Kingdom of God. Jesus is the only human who ever lived in the fullness of the Kingdom, but He invites us in. Jesus says, “The Kingdom of Heaven is near. Come on in. Explore. Let it expand in you. Let it expand you.” I am praying that God will infect us with the yeast of the Kingdom. Let it grow, multiply, expand and enlarge until it takes over everything else, bubbling over and expanding beyond the limits of any of our old wineskins. Come, Kingdom of God! Pop the cork! Blow the lid off. I want more of you than I have ever had before.
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a hidden treasure. (It comes by seeking God.) “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” (Matt 13:44)
The world doesn’t see the Kingdom of Heaven. Some of you don’t know what we’re talking about. Jesus said you have to be born again to even SEE the Kingdom of Heaven. The treasure is worth longing for, searching for, seeking for. The Kingdom of Heaven has got to become our consuming passion and our magnificent obsession. It will only be revealed to those who are desperately hungry for it. Are you one of those? I am. And I am praying that during this time of fasting and prayer, I will become even more desperate until I am consumed with the passion for the Kingdom of Heaven. I want to live in heaven, I want it now and I don’t have to die to go there. We can experience it here and now. The Kingdom of Heaven will always be hidden from the world, but it will be revealed to those who seek Him with all your heart.
The Kingdom of Heaven advances forcefully. Desperate people lay hold of it. (It yields to desperate people.) “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.” (Matt 11:12)
Jesus spoke in violent terms. I like what Jesus said, “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[a] and violent people have been raiding it.” I’m looking for some people who will go on some raids. Every service we have this year, every prayer meeting, every Life Group meeting needs to be a raiding party — going deeper and deeper into the realms of the Kingdom of Heaven. Does anybody want to go? Are there any violent people here who are not content to repeat “church of last year”? God was in “church of last year” but He is not there now. He has advanced, and He is advancing forcefully, violently, at beyond-lightning speed into the church of the Kingdom. If you want it, you’re going to have to be violent in your faith and take it by force.
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a fishing net. (It’s all-inclusive.) “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.” (Matt 13:47)
It is always reaching out for others. And the catch is amazing in it’s potential abundance and in it’s incredible diversity. God wants to let some people in that you and I might not want to let in. He wants the rich and the poor. He wants the young and the old. He wants the fat and the skinny. He wants the prostitutes and the pimps. He wants the pushers and the users. He wants the cons and the conned. He wants the black, white, brown, pink, purple, yellow and green. He wants the homeless, drug addicts, prostitutes and alcoholics. He wants the bound and the free. God’s net is out, and He want them all. He want the card sharks, the pool sharks and the loan sharks. He wants the shrimps and the crabs, the lobsters and the squid, the skates and the sharks, the little fish and the big fish. The good news is that whosoever will may come and enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Nobody is excluded. That’s the way you and I got in. You might think you’re a big fish or a little fish, but God wanted you and you’re in. God wants the rest of them too.

Closing:
Do you want to live in the Kingdom of God, where you daily experience the presence of God? Do you want to tap into the power of God? Then you’re going to have to come under the rule of God. Sounds scary, doesn’t it? But I think it’s the most exciting possibility I ever heard of. I don’t know about you, but I want it. I want to live in the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatever it costs, it will be worth it.
I stand here today, on behalf of God, inviting you into His kingdom, the Kingdom of Heaven. It’s all-inclusive. That means God wants you. Will you say yes?
